The War At Home Memorial is Coming to Broken Arrow

by

Broken Arrow’s Veterans Park is due to receive a new memorial, on July 17th.  Standing tall in the field, the monument is in the form of 22 towering steel plates, each hollowed out with the silhouette of a soldier lost to an ongoing war.  This war is of Post Traumatic Stress suicide.
The first of it’s kind, the monument is traveling for two days in a caravan of Mission 22 vehicles and will be honored its entire journey to its new home.  Local veterans representing the Military History Center will be prominently in attendance.  The public is invited to join in the solemn occasion.
One of the silhouettes is that of Michael Coon who served in both Afghanistan and Iraq.  The very impressive Military History Center has a section dedicated to three generations of the Coon family’s service, spanning WWII, Vietnam War, Afghan War & the War in Iraq.
Mission 22, the non-profit responsible for the memorial, is on a mission to end veteran suicide.  Veteran suicide is an ongoing tragedy that doesn’t get enough nationwide recognition.  Mission 22 is doing their part in improving awareness that an average of 22 veterans that die daily to suicide.  Perhaps this monument in Broken Arrow’s Veterans Park will help accelerate the recognition of and aid to the problem, nationwide.

Unique Quote

Everything in life and in this world moves. It is in some process of change. This is because change is the life blood of existence. And that blood flows continually in a a direction that is rarely the path of least resistance in order to push the most doors of growth open. As a result, it often seems we are not moving forward in life. But in actuality, our flow has just been slowed so we don’t miss seeing the many open doors that life has afforded us. – C.L. Harmon
